| Nihal, you're right. There is something called alternative rock, (which most of Weezer's songs fall under), but I guess we're arguing whether Weezer is alt or mainstream. And just so you know, mainstream sucks. Oh, and Erin, I think Weezer's alt too. But alt IS a kind of rock. | |

| Alt isn't really rock, though. Is it? I mean, alt is more like...outside the norm. But I suppose rock and alt can overlap... | |

| define mainstream. a band does not set out to become mainstream, and that is NOT a genre. mainstream is when a looootttt of people like a band. for example, metro station is NOT mainstream because not a lot of people and idiot preps like them. boys like girls is now mainstream because idiot preps like them, but i still think they're cool. mainstream is not a genre. its a kind of fan base. once something is on 96.3, its mainstream. | |

| I was just about to say that, Ryan. Look, a lot of alternative music is popular and is played on the radio. Hoobastank, Green Day and All-American Rejects were referred to as alternative a lot of the time, but they were still wildly popular. Even though alternative used to be unpopular (Like in the 70s), but now it's just as popular as other kinds of rock. When I use the term mainstream, I'm not talking about popularity or anything. I'm referring to "normal" rock (you know, stuff like punk rock and "pop rock". Tee hee! I totally did not notice that joke until now!) Just like alternative rock is a classification of rock music, mainstream rock is a classification of rock music which includes "un-alternative" rock. | |

| I think alternative is more music that airs on the side of rock, but really doesn't fit anywhere else. But alternative doesn't have anything to do with mainstream since alternative is becoming more and more popular. The two categories here should be Indie and Mainstream, since alternative can be mainstream OR indie. | |
